Do I Need To Book Onto A Class?
No, you don’t need to book on prior to coming to a class. Just arrive 15 mins before class starts so you can fill out the necessary new starter forms ready to start the lesson.
You are more than welcome to come and watch a class first before taking part, if that’s what you’d prefer.
Your first class lesson is free and any subsequent lessons must be paid in cash before the start of the class and your name written in the registration book on the desk.
I’ve Never Trained In Martial Arts Before…
Don’t worry! Many of our new starters are complete novices to martial arts. Our classes are tailored with this in mind and we offer assistance throughout the session to help you learn the basics and beyond. As always, if you’re unsure of something, need a technique explained again or are finding something too difficult, just let one of the instructors know.
What Do I Need For My First Lesson?
If you do not have a gi, you can wear an old t-shirt and a pair of jogging bottoms, leggings or shorts. Do not wear anything with a zip that may hurt you or your training partner. Also avoid wearing pants with pockets as hands and feet can easily get stuck in these when grappling and can cause injury.
After a few sessions, if you wish to continue training, then we recommend you purchase a BJJ gi. These can be purchased from the club, but you can also buy online from reputable brands like Tatami Fightwear.
It’s important to stay hydrated during the class so we suggest bringing a bottle of water or juice to practice so you can take on fluids regularly. We stock bottles of water at the club if you need to buy a drink.
If you’re new to the club, please arrive at the gym 15 minutes before class starts so we can introduce you to the club and facilities.
Licence
Every student and instructor is required to hold a valid membership licence. You will need to renew your licence annually as it serves as insurance for your training. A valid licence is also required for you to participate in the belt gradings.
New students are able to attend a few classes before purchasing a licence. The licences cost £15 for kids and £17 for adults per year.
We’re licensed with the AMA (Amateur Martial Association) who are the largest multi-style martial arts organisation in the UK.
My Child Is Participating In A Class – Can I Stay and Watch?
Of course! Parents are more than welcome to stay and spectate throughout the duration of the class that their child is participating in as long as they do not disturb the class or students.
We have a spectating area at the side of the training mat however seating is limited so we suggest if you wish to stay and secure a seat to arrive early.
